Crazy weather

Post by huntnmachine » Thu Feb 15, 2018 5:23 pm

I assume the snow is gone due to the mild weather the past few days with more mild to come. I am guessing the bay will be a big slush hole for a while.
Will she survive 14 days of rain and wild temps. They claim March will be cold again

Buddy of mine was out yesterday and he said it wasn't bad. Still 10"-12" in most spots so it's holding well. A lot of the snow melted yes but has run off into the odd crack or open holes. There's a few sketchy areas but easy to spot from what I'm told.

How was the fishing? Gonna give it one last shot tomorrow. Just not sure to hit rondeau side or Shrewsbury

Fishing was slower than it has been but fish were caught. Water I'm told was surprisingly cleaner than expected. Might change if any of the ditch runoff reaches the area in front of Brock St though.

Either way (barring any bad news) I will be heading out first thing tomorrow and likely spend the whole day trying to hunt them down. No guarantee we'll get too many other days...

Thanks Aroc and good luck.
I am deciding on either Rondeau or Mitchells Bay for Sunday as probably my last outing. What a shame that we have good ice that would last into March if only the weather would cooperate.
I expect the shore line will get nasty after the mild temps and rain heading our way :(

Yes very slippery even with cleats. Took me all morning moving around everywhere shallow to deep and back but finally found a decent school of them around noon. No giants but ended up with 16 between 8-11" with a few more barely keepers as well (photo taken part way through so not all I caught was There yet).

Likely be my last trip too with the mild weather coming. Lots of good ice but still spudded through a number of rouge holes which will only get worse.

Nice catch Aroc, I decided to put my clam and gear away for the season today. Wish I would have made the effort but the forecast took the steam out of me.
It was great to have lot's of ice this winter (never know when we may get that again) but I had a heck of a time landing on fish this winter. I am usually a "pick a spot and wait" guy with good success but this year that did not work so I drilled and drilled and drilled and never did have a WOW day.

Next winter I plan to fish Rondeau more.........I miss the Bay since moving away back in 2004, mostly fish Mitchells Bay or St Lukes. Hate to see the ice go (just never know when it will return anymore), and even though it was one of my least successful winters in some time I still love to ice fish :D

Got out once more with my son Sunday afternoon. Not a lot of fish caught but he had fun watching them down the hole in shallow water. Not sure what this warm spell is going to bring but it can't be good for the long haul. If it goes, I want it to go quick so we can get back to some open water stuff! But I wouldn't mind some early March hardwater action too ;)
